Gang Exiting

The Gang Exiting Program offers culturally grounded mentorship and support to help relatives reduce gang involvement and build safer, more balanced lives.

About

We follow the lead of our Relatives, centering their voices and needs as they work to safely leave gangs or unhealthy groups. We provide support both inside Stony Mountain Institution (SMI) and after release, helping relatives reintegrate into Winnipeg and other communities while reconnecting with family and accessing practical resources. Our approach is low-barrier, non-judgmental, and tailored to each person. We focus on the experiences, factors, and trauma that contributed to gang involvement, helping relatives build safer, healthier paths that reflect their own goals and vision for the future.

Supports

  • Housing and education support
  • Employment and economic support
  • Positive circle building
  • Sacred duty and purpose support for relatives who need this connection
  • Community supports (volunteering, connection to ceremonial circles, friendship and kinship building)
  • Customized supports and legal navigation supports
